When it comes to security, healthcare has always shouldered a bigger burden than other industries.

With the new breach notification requirements and transition to electronic health records, the security stakes are even higher.

The healthcare industry is facing a firestorm of change – federal breach notification laws, regulatory oversight of multiple agencies, and differing state laws that are sometimes in conflict with federal regulation. Yet, for all this change, the checklist mentality that has prevailed under HIPAA is still present.

Now is the time for healthcare organizations to shift focus and embrace the security protocols that will carry them through these changes. Join Alan Brill and Brian Lapidus for a review of healthcare security measures both past and present, with an insightful look at the practical ways in which organizations can plan for the future.
